Story[ | ]
Hey guys! It's your girl, Jennifer. Whoops, I mean... Dangit, I keep forgetting I'm not supposed to use my real name! Okay, whatever, Jennifer here! I'm the big hero who's gonna whup the bad guys for you. Protecting the world, that's what I'm here to do. And no, you don't need a guy to do that! Women like me can be real superheroes, too! Leave all those old-fashioned ideas at the door, 'cause it's a brave new world with hot new heroes like ME!
Ah, you'll have to excuse me... I get pretty worked up about that sexist stuff. It's 'cause of my dad, actually. Well, I mean, it's not HIS fault, it just... Okay, you know what? How about I tell the whole story? So, you might have heard of my dad, he's the original Crowman. Yeah, him, from the news reports with the black cape. Super scary for the bad guys! Now, HIS dad was actually Turbo Boy, who had the awesome suit and was super, MEGA strong. (I know, calling Grandpa "boy" is really weird which is why I didn't want to be called "girl" or whatever.) Anyway, they're both retired now but they were my heroes when I was growing up! I wanted to be JUST like them, and not just 'cause our whole family was super. Seriously, my great-grandpa, my great-great-grandpa, my great-great-gr... Er, I lost count. You get the idea, though!
The thing is, they were all guys. I wanted to be the first big gi-WOMAN superhero from our family, y'know? Oh, and FORGET about my brother. Dave just wants to study and be a scientist some day. And that's cool, right? But Dad and Gramps want HIM to be the next generation of hero. They give me so much grief every time I put the tights on! But I kept at it, and eventually they gave in. Especially once Dave got accepted to college... But I worked really hard, too! I've almost proven myself, though I guess I'm still training? I dunno, I feel pretty dang strong already!
Yeah, Dad wants me to check in with him every time I'm about to leave. It's super annoying but I guess he wants to make sure I'm not fighting any big supervillains or whatever. I'm just like, Daaaaad, I can handle it, y'know? I'm super strong AND super fast? And then I go and save someone who was falling off a bridge or a building and they STILL just nag me 'cause I didn't save EVERYONE or some dumb building got knocked over. I mean, can they not just say something NICE once in awhile? Geez. It's like, you collapse ONE museum of rare and priceless artifacts and you NEVER hear the end of it.I know, sometimes I knock out part of the power grid, or I forget to wear my mask for big battles, but it's all little stuff. The IMPORTANT part is that I'm working hard and learning more every day! Getting an A in math isn't going to save the world, is it? I'm here to be the best hero I can be, and prove to my family that I can handle anything that comes my way. So, I'd better get going. There's bad guys to beat up, and people to save!
