Story[ | ]
Some call boxing a gentleman's sport, drawing attention to the small ring, thick gloves, and strict rules. In truth, it is a violent and brutal sport that can leave lasting damage on a competitor even in the best of circumstances. Boxers are incredible athletes, and even through those thick gloves they can deliver crushing blows to the head. More than a few boxers have been forced into early retirement or even killed by injuries sustained in the ring.
Arnold Carter was one of those tragic figures whose boxing career ended far too early. His star rose quickly as he made his professional debut by scoring a TKO just three rounds into the match. He followed that feat up with an unbroken streak of 20 victories, drawing comparisons with the legendary boxers of yesteryear. His style was not as showy, but his fast jabs and footwork made him a formidable opponent. However, his star was destined to fall in his fight for the world championship as a sudden, unguarded blow to the temple put him down for good.
With the big up-and-comer gone, the boxing world quickly moved on to a new star. Arnold was forgotten and left with nothing, having devoted his life to perfecting his sport. He was a strong man, but depression can find a home in even the strongest heart and it began to consume him. His wife did her best to care for and support him but was unprepared for the pressures of his condition and left him, driving him further into depression and into the dark embrace of drugs and alcohol. The only thing that kept him from oblivion was his five-year-old son, for whom his father would always be his hero."My dad wanted me to live the dream that he couldn't. Everything I am is because of him!"
Louis Carter always gave his father the credit for his meteoric rise in the boxing world. With an unprecedented record of 101 wins, 3 ties, 0 losses, and a 60-win streak, he was the phenom that Arnold had always hoped to be. It was a crushing blow to Louis when his father passed away only days before his big championship bout but he bounced back just as strong as he did in the ring. He learned so much from his father, and though the family was poor and troubled he coped with unrestrained energy and optimism.
It is his personality, more than his record, that has made Louis a huge celebrity. His showmanship changes the ring from a battlefield to a stage, and his warm interactions with his fans have made him a beloved figure even beyond the sporting world. He has a trademark wink at the end of every match that delights his fans, and his unmistakable hairstyle (which is said to take an entire can of spray a day) has grown in popularity. Some call him a clown and a show-off but after watching the man at work, there can be no dispute that Louis is one of the most talented boxers of all time.
Perhaps for Louis, Hyper Universe is another title to fight for now that he has them all. Once he gets in the ring, wherever that ring may be, you can be sure he'll fight with all his heart and dedicate his wins to the man who made it possible.
