Signal is one of the playable Hypers in Hyper Universe.
Introduction
This hyper possesses both moving and sniping attacks, allowing him to rush in and attack, then to snipe fleeing enemies. He's weak to hypers who charge, so constant use of his scanning ability to scout the battlefield is a necessity.
Story
As the cosmic war dragged on, the powers behind it started to focus more on quantity than strategy. Every faction tried to gain the upper hand with new technology, and the most prolific of all weapons were the battle robots. They were the perfect tool of war, being both simple to mass-produce and easy to control. In time every planet touched by war had a robot factory, and conventional militaries were almost completely replaced by regiments of battle robots.
Signal was assembled in Space Year 3478. Its model series, EC570, was optimized for offensive strikes but had a crippling lack of defenses. This became the standard in the later days of the war, as recovery statistics for robots post-battle approached 0%. It was simply cheaper to build new robots than to recover and service the old ones. Signal was deployed directly from its manufacturing plant into the 821st Cosmic War. At this point defeat was all but assured for his makers, so his deployment was meant to do little more than delay the inevitable.
For a short time the battle swung in Signal's favor, and there was some hope from its commanders that victory was still possible. But just like with every other conflict, the enemy kept deploying additional robots of their own until Signal's group was overwhelmed. Though it survived the battle intact, its creators chose not to bother with retrieval as a newer model had already been developed. Signal continued to follows its programming, destroying enemies and evading danger until its power source failed from combat damage. The EC570 series faded into obscurity, and Signal drifted through space, quiet and alone.
<Restoration protocols engaged>
After almost a century of drifting in space, Signal awoke. A nearby collision of planets created an energy burst strong enough to revitalize its systems. Signal was stiff and rusted after decades of inactivity but appeared to be plenty hardy, built from durable alloys as he was.
<Critical error detected>
However, its circuitry had been nearly destroyed in its last battle, causing errors that the recovery protocol could not correct. Without control circuits it would be impossible for anyone to issue new orders to Signal. It could still identify targets, but lacking the control circuits meant that everything it identified was labeled a target. Signal has become a space-borne scourge, killing whatever it encounters to fulfil its original function.
