Introduction[ | ]
This hyper is at home on the front lines of any battle. His high health and defense allow him to take the brunt of attacks meant for his team. With his many defensive skills, he can be an important and versatile part of any team.
Story[ | ]
Valter's day starts at the crack of dawn with morning prayer. His prayer is not for himself, but a plea that the light of Aquinas reach even the darkest corners of the world. After prayer he sits down to a breakfast of barley bread and water. For 30 years, Valter has eaten the same simple meal as the sun rises, but does so with gladness in his heart. Once his meal is finished he begins his morning exercises, 100 laps around the training field and hours of strength training. Few of the templar under his command can keep up with him, but Valter completes his routine without fail every day of his long life.
At lunch, Valter treats himself to three boiled potatoes and thin corn porridge. Then it's back to training, this time with weighted weapons and practice armor. He trains until sundown, long after the last of his templars has given up and crawled back to his bunk to let his body mend. Once darkness falls, Valter returns to the chapel and prays until midnight. He never eats dinner. After hours of prayer, he sleeps for a few scant hours before rising at the crack of dawn and beginning again.
The Temple of Aquinas cannot be said to be cruel or strict, for Valter subjects himself to this training of his own volition. The religion of Aquinas has the most followers on the continent, and they have no end of offerings and wealth from their followers. Aquinas is a god of bounty, and the temple returns much of that bounty to the people who need it most. It is only Valter who chooses to practice his faith under such stringent rules. He invites his templar to follow his example if they wish to match his might, and many try but few succeed. Rain or shine, hot or cold, Valter carries on in his way.
His incredible discipline is what earned him the title of Commander and the unwavering loyalty of the templar. He never acts without respect or concern for his charges, though his own skills are far beyond what is even achievable for many under his tutelage. And he commands respect without ever asking for it, simply through his power of conviction. Valter is known as the defender of the light, even to those who have never met him.
"Aquinas once said, if there is a road ahead, you must walk it though it be covered in thorns. If it was the will of Aquinas that I face a great trial, then how could I not forge forth as one who is a humble servant of god? I pledged to be the sword and shield of Aquinas. Defender of Light? I dare not call myself such with my meager ability. It is my tremendous honor to give this worthless body in service to his will."
